Ranitidine announcement

The Therapeutic Goods Administration has recently announced a change in its position on Ranitidine containing products. Some medications, including those prescribed in the treatment of HG and NVP, have been recalled due to these recent findings.

PLEASE DO NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP TAKING YOUR MEDICATION AND SEEK ADVICE OF YOUR DOCTOR.

If you are currently taking Rantidine please try not to worry - the TGA is not suggesting anyone who needs the medication stop taking it immediately. Leaving your symptoms untreated is much worse than the current risk. But it is important to arrange to see your care provider ASAP. It will simply be a case of swapping to another antacid, but it’s essential that you work with them on what rather than making those decisions on your own. There are a number of different alternatives to Ranitidine containing products so you will not be left suffering.

It’s also a good idea to swap as certain Ranitidine-containing brands have been recalled as of this week and it is likely there will be a shortage of Ranitidine in the coming weeks/months. Please consult your teams to talk about other options. if they say there are no other options please contact us so that we can give you the information you need.
